Hey bloggers! welcome back to another day on AICE Media Studies. These last weeks we've been doing a music marketing research, each group had 5 people, and a different style of music, for example, me and my group got the category "country music".
At first, when we got country, it didn't sound so bad to me, because I knew a country song or two, but when me and my group started looking for country singers, we didn't know any names, and it was kid of stressful, but when we settled with a certain country singer, everything that followed was easier.
Each member of the group had to do a research about a company and two singers that were part of it. I chose to do the company Universal Music Group (UMG), and the singers Carrie Underwood, and Post Malone, who's music is not only centered in country, but his last album, f1-trillion is a country album, and he has been entering that world recently.
For the research, which you can see here, we had to first research about the company itself, and include a brief history of it. Also, we needed to put the major artists of the company, which of UMG were others like Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, and more. Then we had to do the case studies, which were separated into four columns, one for a brief history of the singer, other for their target audience, one for their digital marketing distribution, and the last one for their non-digital marketing distributions.
When the research was done, in class we did a media contexts essay, in which we could use our research, and it was really helpful for me. Our teacher provided us with two prompts, and I chose one that was something like "evaluate the significance of new marketing technologies in the media world". For me, that prompt was a little bit tricky, because I didn't knew many new marketing technologies, but I managed to get through the essay, and I learned a lot and ended up getting a good grade.
What I liked the most about this project, was the research part, where we had to research about the marketing techniques of the singers, and why they do some things. I also realized that most of the things they do, is to get bigger, and broader audiences.
Well bloggers, that's everything for today, but see you on the next one!!
