Editing Part 2

Editing The First Scene

Hello everyone, and welcome back! I was anxious to do this blog (and the editing), because I feel that the sooner I do it, the sooner my project is going to be D-O-N-E, which I’m really happy about, since I want you guys to be able to see the result, and I also want to see it, because I feel that is going to be really cool to be able to see what I created from scratch… but well, lets get into it!

Process

Like the other part that I already edited was the second part of the video, I’m going to create a new “video” on adobe, to separate both, and because I think that that way it will be easier to edit. I also will add the sound.

Obstacle

I tried to do this at school, and edit the shots together, but apparently, Adobe and my IPad were not compatible, again, and I tried to make it work, but it was too difficult. Then, I tried using one of the school laptops, but I didn’t have enough internet to send the tons of videos that I had, because in case you didn’t know, the school blocks the internet for some apps, and I think that it makes it much slower, and also work badly. Like I needed to do something, I uploaded the videos (which was a slow process) to adobe, so when I got home I could edit them in an easier way, because they were going to be in the correct order, and it was going to be easier.

Editing

When I got home, I finished editing. I’m not going to lie; it was not a fun process, and it was least fun on a Friday afternoon, where all you want to do is sleep, or hang out with friends. Another little thing is that I don’t like to edit at all, because I can do it, but I feel that a much better job could’ve been done every time. I edited the videos together, and later added the second part of the opening. I like the result, but all I’m going to say is that it’s not ready yet. I still have to add some sound effects, remake some shots, and add the credit sequences, which I yet have to design.

I was planning to redo some scenes this weekend, so the editing will probably be ready soon, in between this and next week, so, stay tuned to be updated!!! I’ll see you all on the next blog, and have a great weekend!

Production Day 2

Second Production Day, Recording the First Scene

 Heeeey!

Today… I’m happy. I’m reaaaaally happy. I FINALLY RECORDED THE FIRST PART!! (Because the other thing I recorded was the second part). It went SUPER-DUPER good, and I actually think that I won’t have to remake any of the shots. There were some obstacles, like time (again), but this time was different, I got there too early, and I only had 1 hour to record. But I’ll get into that further in this blog

Preparation

For the costuming, Maverick had to wear a white shirt, but it had to be really dirty, and it had to appear that it had blood. To do this, I basically rolled the shirt in the dirty ground to make it look messy and dirty.

After that, when I was happy with the result, I grabbed some sauces (ketchup, and spicy sauces (Tapatio)) and carefully applied them on the shirt. At first I was only using ketchup, but I didn’t like the concistency and color, so I went to my fridge, to see what else I could use, and found that sauce (that’s why in the video, there’s a part where I’m walking around my home). I liked very much how that hot sauce looked on the shirt, so I did two stains and concluded that the shirt was ready

MAKEUP

My dad was working on his computer, so when I tried to do the makeup, it was a little bit difficult, but I managed to make it look good, and I personally thought that it looked realistic, and that even though in that video it looks too dark, on the shooting the lightning was different, so I think that it worked perfectly, but of course, I haven’t yet edited the shots, so there may be some future complications, but I don’t think that there will be.

Problems

We had to leave my house at 5:55 PM to arrive at the church at approximately 6:05 PM, and my dad had a meeting at 6:45, so we only had 40 minutes to record + set up everything. The problem is that the sunset is at 6:15, but it doesn’t get dark until later, so I had to start recording at 6:25, and finished recording at 6:45. When I started recording, there was plenty of light, but when I finished, the light was almost dark, so I don’t know if the contrast is going to be too big, but I’ll try to edit the videos, and fix the lighting if needed.

Another “problem” was that I forgot that on Thursday, there’s a holy hour, in where people go to the church at 7 PM to do an adoration, and that before that there is a youth group meeting, so yes, the parking lot was pretty crowded, and I got nervous, because I didn’t want to record with that many people, but then my dad told me that I wouldn’t be the one embarrassed, but he was going to be, so we laughed at it and just recorded.

Spot

When I got to the church, as I said before, it was a little bit crowded, and that means that the parking lot was also crowded, and when I got there, I got scared, because I thought that we were going to shoot on the bushes, which are full of mosquitoes, but that was not the case, because my dad had the idea of recording near some construction stuff. I hadn’t noticed it before, like I knew they were there, but I never cared about it, but when I thought about shooting with that as a background, I loved the idea, since what I needed was basically to shot a guy who appears to be kidnapped, and I tink that that background is much better than a parking lot.

Conventions and Social Groups (CCR#1)

CCR Question #1 Research

How does your project use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? This question… this question is one of the 4 questions that I will have to respond to in my CCR production, and, to be honest with you, at first I didn’t even know what conventions were. So yes, this question have been in my mind a lot recently, and yes, I finally kind of know how to answer.

Background info

First of all, I think that I should talk about the tings that I find exiting of this CCR project, before getting into the boring stuff… whoops. My idea for the first video of the CCR (I have to do 2 videos, each answering 2 questions) is to tie me up in a chair, like Maverick was, and answer the questions while trying to escape.

Research for Conventions

To know what the question meant, and be able to answer it, I had to know what conventions were, so I went into google and found that they were the specifics of a genre (in this case), so the question “How does my project use or challenge conventions” means how my project is similar and different from the usual “rules” of action films. For example, a convention of the genre is that films usually have a “good guy” and a “bad guy”, and in my opening, Maverick’s is the “good guy”, and the person who hurt him, and kidnapped him is the “bad guy”.
A common convention that my project challenges is that action films usually happen in big cities, which are very modern, and my project challenges this convention because I'm not going to show the city, and even if I did, it would not be futuristic.

Research for social groups and issues

Luckily, this part of the question was much easier for me to understand, but when I started thinking about it, I realized that it was going to be more difficult to answer.
My project can represent trauma after a violent event, because of how scared Maverick is. It represents how the trauma doesn’t disappear, but keeps affecting Maverick’s mental health years later. Also, it represents the challenged stereotypes about masculinity, because Maverick is shown vulnerable (when he was kidnapped), and weak (he was covered in blood and bruises), and also because he’s shown emotionally vulnerable, even years later.
Maverick, experiencing trauma, and being vulnerable.

Editing part 1

Editing the Second Scene

Hey there! Today I’m going to edit the clips that I recorded last week together, but they are too many, so, to make the process as easy, and nice as possible, I’m going to do them by parts, separating them into scenes. The first scene that I’ll be editing, is the shots from the first day that I recorded, which are the shots from when Maverick wakes up from his nightmare, and everything that follows.

Resources

To edit the clips, I used the app “Adobe Express”, which I had used on prior projects, and I liked it very much, and I didn’t have any problems. Since Adobe is an app that works with a monthly subscription, I probably wouldn't be using it if my school didn’t pay for it, but thanks to my school, I discovered it, and I can use many features that are very good, and I have the chance to work like a professional. The only issue that I encountered while editing the shots together, was that I usually use my IPad for school stuff, but at first, Adobe wasn’t working properly on my iPad, or maybe I didn’t know how to properly use it, but, later I tried again, and it worked, I learned how to use the app, and I did the editing. The reason that I had used the app before, and it worked perfectly, is because I used to do it from a laptop, but since I got an IPad as a Christmas present, I find it much easy to use, and I guess that what happened was that I had just downloaded the app, it looked different, and I could not log in, but once that was solved, I successfully edited the shots.

What’s next

For the next days, I will continue to edit the video, and there’s some shots that I have to re-do, so I will be also recording. I’ll keep you guys updated, and I hope to see you on the next blog!

Group Meeting #2

Second Group Meeting

Today, in class, we had our second group meeting, it was super helpful, since we talked about the CCR (creative critical response), some obstacles that we had, and about the opening itself. My group consisted of 6 persons (counting me) which one of them, had their film opening almost ready, and she showed it to us, and watching it really helped me a lot. It helped me see what difficulties I could face on the editing, or even while recording the parts that i haven’t done.

Other projects

The first to go was Abrielle. She’s the one who showed us her opening, and I liked it really much. It was about an underage DJ, who struggled to DJ because of his underage. At the beginning it showed him ripping out the part of a poster of a party that said 21+, then he continued to produce more of his music, and the music starts playing. After showing him on his room producing music, the scene changes to a car scene, in which there’s a lot of people just dancing and feeling the music. I don’t know if my explanation of her project is the best, but you can always go check to her blog. One of her biggest obstacles was that she didn’t meet the time limit, because her opening was too. Short (1.38 out of 2.00), but she’s not that worried about that yet, because she hasn’t finished recording or editing. For her CCR, she had no idea what she wanted to do… Brianna gave her the idea to do a messy interview, like to have many “journalists” surrounding her and asking her each of the CCR questions. I think that Abrielle liked this idea, since it is creative, and fun

Me and my group :)
For the rest of the people, a similar process was done, they talked about their ideas and the rest gave critiques and suggestions.

My Project

When it was my turn, I talked about my project, and about what I have recorded, but for the CCR i sort of had an idea, but my classmates gave me one much better… I told them that I had an idea, but that I didn’t love it, and one of my group members gave me the best idea that I couldn’t have possibly thought of… to have me in the place of Maverick, tied up in a chair, answering the question while I try to escape, to make it fun, and engaging. This idea is much better than doing a podcast, or a talk show, and just having a floating head…

(Non)Production Day

Production Day (whoops)

Imagine you are ready to do something, but you can’t because you don’t have everything needed. This happened to me today, when I was at the filming location, setting up the place, and when I was almost ready, ready to tie up Maverick to the chair. I realized that I had not thought of what kind of ropes I was going to use to tie him, or where was I going to get them from. I almost panicked because the sun was not going to stay still, and the sundown was really close. I rushed home, and looked for ropes, but I couldn’t find any, and for the time that I had solved it, it was already dark, and I was not able to shoot.

I guess this happened to me as a lecture for being a big postponer, but maybe, just maybe, it was a signal from heaven, telling me to shot another day, since there were some cars parked that were making it very difficult for me to find a good place to shoot, and the spot I ended up choosing, was not perfect. Also, because today is Sunday, and like I’m shooting this scenes at a church, it was a little bit full of cars and people…

Preparation

Like I was not able to shoot today, I’m going to shoot tomorrow, but this time, I’m going to have every little thing planned out, and I’ll be really careful with the details…

First of all, the tings that I’ll have to bring with me are:

  • A chair that doesn’t look fancy
  • ROPES
  • Makeup (I’m going to do the costume design at my house, but I’ll bring the makeup as a backup, and to retouch)
  • Ketchup, marmalade, and hot sauce (to simulate blood)
  • Lights
  • Microphones
  • Tripod
  • Formal clothing (for villain)
  • Knife
  • Props (watch, ring)
Also, to avoid repeating my mistakes, I’m going to start with the costume design at around 4:30 pm, to have at least 1 hour and 30 minutes to be ready, and not being late, and avoid to end up shooting without sunlight.
Everything already collected, so tomorrow I don't forget anything.

Production Day 1

First Production Day, Recording the Second Scene

Hello everyone, I’m not going to lie… I postponed the shooting days, because of many things, but mainly, because I’m a big postponing person. I was supposed to film on  Wednesday, but ended up filming on Friday (today). On this blog, I’m going to tell you how this shooting process was and the obstacles that I encountered.

Setting

The first obstacle that I encountered, was that where I planned to record (my parent’s bedroom) was really messy, and disorganized, and like it is not my bedroom, it was difficult to clean it, plus the time was limited, since I want the lighting for this scene to be with a little bit of natural light, simulating a morning, but I couldn’t get my actors to wake up at that time, so it occurred to me to shoot a bit after sunset, because the lighting at that time is also really good, and I could make it look like a morning. I also had to change the sheets, since I don’t know why, but my parents had green ones, which I don’t like very much, and I feel that they don’t go with what I’m trying to project in the opening.

Actors

The costuming process was a really easy thing to do, I just dressed my main actor (Maverick) with his PJ’s, and made his hair messy, which worked with the vibe that I wanted of a guy that just waked up from a nightmare.

Shooting

I’m not going to lie, I thought that shooting this scenes was going to be easy, but let me tell you, it was not. First of all, because I had to take many shots from different angles, and that took some time; and also because I had to record the phone call, and like Maverick’s character (my dad) doesn’t speak English really well, it was kind of a challenge to make that phone call understandable.

BigBan Productions

Creation of Company Logo

Hello! I hope that you are having a good day. Today, I’m going to be doing my company logo. First of all, I had to choose a name, which was really difficult. I wanted it to be something fun, weird, and professional all together. One of the ideas that came up to my kind was “BigBang Productions”, but then I looked it up, to see if it already existed, and guess what… it did, so I looked for more names, even though I loved that one, and while thinking I came up with “BigBan productions”, which is really similar to the other one I thought of, but is also creative, and all of the things I wanted it to be, especially because that company is supposed to create action films.

Creation Process

For the creation of my logo, I used the app “Canva”, which I liked really much, since I thought it was easy to use, and included many different effects, and design elements. I choose red, since, as you can see on this blog (used on all subheadings), it is a color that represents the film, and it also can be associated with the action genre. Then, for the background image, I was thinking of putting a car drawing, but then I realized that “The Awakening” is not going to be the only film of this company, and that it’s a production company, so I decided to put the camera drawing.
Before changing it (not final logo)

Filming schedule

Shooting days schedule (hopefully)

Hey there! I’m so exited, because the time has finally come… I’M GOING TO START THE RECORDING PROCESS; THIS WEEK!

An obstacle that I’m going to have is school. It takes most of my time, and if I want to film on school days, I’m have to be really organized, and responsible, because if I’m not, I may run out of time to do both schoolwork, and the filming. This is why I’m dividing the filming in days, which are going to make my life a whole much easier.

Wednesday 2/18

Wednesday is way to close to today’s date (2/17), and that’s why I’m not going to do a scene that requires a lot of planning, because I rely mainly on my actors, which need time to organize their time for being able to do the acting. Also, because it is ash Wednesday, so the church, which is my filming location, is going to be full, as well as the parking lot.

This is why I’m not going to start the filming by the first scene, which can’t be recorded at my house, but for the second part of the film, which is when Maverick wakes up from a nightmare. This scene also is going to be filmed at my house, so my actors won’t have to take much time on this, because they live there (since I’m using my father and my big brother as main actors).

Thursday 2/19

On Thursday, I’m going to record the first part of the film. The lighting for this scene is important, as well as the time of day, because if I plan to record on mass hours, the parking lot may be too crowded. The ideal lighting that I would like is almost no natural light, but not too dark. This is why I was thinking about recording a little after the sunset, where the sun doesn’t shine as bright, but there’s still some light.
Where I live, the sunset is being at around 6:15 PM, which is perfect for me, because there’s no mass at that time, and also because the church’s last catechesis for kids is at 5, which means that there won’t be people walking around, which is amazing for the film, since Maverick it’s going to be tied up on a chair, hurt, and it there were people; it may make it look fake.

Friday 2/20

I’m going to leave Friday for the flashback shots, when Maverick is going through his day, but keeps remembering the past. I’ll have to record in my car, in the highway, and also a fight between Maverick, and the villain. All of this shots are going to be really short, and also include a lot of close ups, so the audience doesn’t get much information, and to create intrigue.

Weekend 2/21-2/22

If a shot is not good enough, or if I need to re-record something I’m going to do it over the weekend. The reason that I didn’t wanted to record on the weekend is because I couldn’t use the church as a location, because of how crowded it gets. I would not be able to record in the parking lot nor the grass area, since there are probably going to be cars parked all around.
But if I have to remake any shot, I’ll do it on the weekend, to start the editing process next week.

Soundscape

Sound

I think that one of the biggest obstacles that I will encounter, is the sound; which I feel that makes a big difference between a good film, and a not so good one. If what the characters are saying is not easily understood, the quality of the film goes down a lot. Also, in class, Ms. Stoklosa said that one of the main things that brought the previous projects grades, and quality down was the audio. For this reason, I want the audio of my opening to be really good, and for that, I will use some special tools.

Microphones

My dad, sometimes has to record some videos talking, for work, and that's why he got microphones, to make the audio quality better. This microphones are not like the ones used in concerts, no, they are really micro-phones, and they have a little clothespin attached to it, which allows the microphone to be attached to things. This microphones are special for the recording of videos, which is why I think that they will be really useful in the development of my opening.
I don't want the microphones to be visible, and the clothespin allows me to hide them. I could maybe put one on Maverick's clothes, and if the sound quality goes down, because it has to be hidden on his body, I can attach it so the chair, or maybe on a part of Maverick's body that's not visible.

Other Options

If the microphones are not working properly, or if anything happens to the audio, my second option is to use voice memos. I could hide a phone near where the sound is coming from, and just record the audio with voice memos, which is an app that records voice notes.
If none of this options work, or if a specific part of a segment is not audible, there's a thing called foley, which is basically the reproduction of a sound in the media to enhance audio quality. I can take these sounds from non-copyright cites, like Pixabay, or I could create the sounds myself, like I did for some of the sounds on the first project of my sound projects blogs.

Costume

Maverick’s Costume

Hey! Welcome to a new post. For the costuming of my main character, Maverick, for the first scene I was thinking about using a white t-shirt, and tearing it up a little bit, plus making it wet, to indicate that maverick is sweating, adding red sauce, like ketchup, or fake blood, to simulate blood, and lastly, add some dust to the shirt, to make it look dirty, and to show that Maverick was or is on a dirty place. He’s also going to have a watch that looks expensive, and a marriage ring. For the second scene, where he’s sleeping, I’m going to have him wear a PJ that looks clean and comfy, but it has to be "normal". My dad has many that will work, so I’m probably just going to take one of his (also, he's going to be Maverick, so I can make sure that it fits him). For accessories, Maverick is going to have the same ring and watch.

Villain

I want my audience to think about the villain as a smart person, and to be able to achieve and express this, I feel that is important that he dresses well. I’m going to use a suit as the outfit in all the scenes, since I feel this is going to represent that no matter what, he’s always clean, and elegant. The suit is going to be perfectly ironed, and not too big or small, but perfectly sized. Also, the villain is going to have a slick back, or a hairstyle that looks elegant. As I said before, through his outfit, I want to represent elegance, and intelligence.

Set and Lighting️đź’ˇ

Set, and lights

Even though I may encounter many difficulties while doing my opening, I think that one of the biggest ones will be the lighting. For the scene of the dark room, where Maverick is tied-up on the chair, I want to have mostly a low-key lighting, which I don’t know how I’m going to achieve, but I have some ideas.

Garage (option one)

First of all I have to think about where could I record it, and I thought of my garage, which could work perfectly, but the only problem it that it is full of stuff (heavy stuff) that could interfere with the shots; but if I manage to remove some objects, I would definitely record it on my garage. For the lighting, I have a lamp that has many colors (different tones of white/yellow), and intensity, so I could put that on the side of Maverick (who’s tied up to the chair), and if I need additional lighting, my garage has one of those lights with low intensity, that could help me get the vibe I want.

Parking Lot

If I don’t manage to move some objects from my garage, I was thinking of doing it not in a room, but on a parking lot, or outside, on the nature.

The church That I go to has a parking lot, that on mass hours is full, but when there's no mass, it's usually empty. At night, I could go there, and record my opening, since it also adds like a mystery vibe, and it's pretty big, so it could be perfect for my scene. There's the street, the church, the parking lot, and behind the parking lot, there are some woody everglades, which doesn't have any religious elements that could interfere in my opening, so I think that location could work perfectly. For the lightning, I could turn on my car headlights, but position them in an angle in which it doesn't add too much light to my scene, but not too little, and for the backlight part of the villain, i could also use the same lights, or if they are to strong I could maybe use the flashlight from my phone, or a normal flashlight.

Grass Area

My last option is also at the church, next to the parking lot, there’s a grass area, that is used when the parking lot is full. That section is actually really big, so it can also work to add depth to the shots, and make it easier to create long shots. For the lighting on this location, I was thinking about doing the same lighting as in the parking lot, using my car, and flashlights.

Meet Maverick

Who’s my Main Character?

Choosing a name for my main character was not easy. It has to be a name that is strong, and that tells a story just by hearing it. It has to be a name that has a deeper meaning than just its words. When I came across the name Maverick when I was looking for names, I could only think of the film “Top Gun”, but then I looked into the meaning of the name, which is “independent thinker”. When I was looking at the deeper meaning of that name, I also found a Website that said that it means “an independent individual who does not go along with a group or party”. I liked this meaning, because the main character of my story is going to be a cool guy, but with that name, people are going to be able to infer that he’s not like everybody else, but that he’s different, and smart.
A Maverick is someone who acts as a “lone wolf”, who creates their own rules, and who challenges norms for a greater purpose.
Also, when I did a google search for the name, and clicked on images, all of the images were from cars, since there’s a model of cars that is called “Maverick”, and if people think of a car when they hear the name Maverick, they can also think on my character as someone who’s strong, and focuses on efficiency.
In conclusion, Maverick is going to be the name of my main character. He’s independent, strong, doesn’t follow the crowd, smart, not like everybody else, creates his own rules, and efficient.

Storyboard

Storyboard

Hey! welcome to another blog. Today, I did the final storyboard, and i liked the final result. The opening may be a little bit different, because I may encounter some difficulties, and I may have to change some parts of it. Each of the scenes is shown in one square of the storyboard, and my goal is to be able to record that, but using real characters, and to make it look "cool".

Well, I hope you liked this blog, even though it was different from the other ones (much less text), and see you on the next one!

“The Awakening”

Final Opening Idea

Do you remember like 2 blogs ago, when I posted about how my opening was going to be like? Well… that was a draft, but now, in this blog, I’ll do the final version of how my opening is going to be like! Which, as you can see, I’m exited for, but also a little bit scared, because, if I can’t develop this idea on a way that works, I may have to change the whole story, and maybe even the genre, which is going to be really difficult to do, but that probably won’t be the case, so let’s get into it!

Idea

“The awakening”

As I said before, my idea is to have a guy that looks older than 25 (probably my dad), in a dark room, tied up in a chair. The opening is going to start with sounds of this guy trying to get out of the chair while the camera shows where he’s at, and details of the room. Then, a close-up of this guy’s feet (tied up to the chair) followed by a tilt up until the shot reaches his eyes is going to show that he’a really sweaty, and he’s going to have bruises and blood in different parts of his body. He’s going to look really confused, and scared. I also want to include some suspense music, and when the music it’s reaching a high point, a guy (villain) appears in front of the guy tied up on the chair, with backlight, so the details from his face are not shown, and he will be recorded him from a low angle, to make him look dangerous, and to add a deeper meaning.

After that shot; the guy that was tied up in the chair wakes up, sweating again, with heavy breathing. He’s in his bedroom, with his wife sleeping on his side. It’s a pretty house that has pictures and drawings from kids (their children). This guy gets up from bed, and goes to the kitchen, where he calls someone and says “It’s happening again, I’m dreaming about what happened 2 years ago, he’s back”, and after that, the shots are going to follow that guy in his day, while he keeps having flashbacks of that moment.

Character Theory

Theories

Hey everyone!! It’s almost the time where I should start recording (this weekend), but before, I wanted to blog about the media theories. The media theories add value to the final project, as well as a deeper meaning.

Today, I’m going to be talking about the character theory, and how can I incorporate it into my project.

                                                       Character Theory

This theory was created by Vladimir Propp, and it basically means how characters can be classified into certain roles. Propp argues that there are 7 types of characters:
    1. Hero - usually the protagonist.
    2. Villain - Antagonist, will work against protagonist and his roles.
    3. Dispatcher - The character who sends the hero on their journey
    4. Helper - Character who help and aids the protagonist
    5. Donor - Character who provides the protagonist with something that helps them succeed, or achieve their goals.
    6. Princess - Motivation for protagonist, or reward.
    7. False Hero - This is a character who initially was not set up as a villain, but who worked to prevent the protagonist from achieving their goal.
I could incorporate this theory into my project by showing the hero tied up to the chair, and showing flashbacks of him “suffering”, having issues, or overcoming obstacles. This will create a sort of empathy to the audience, and to show that he has to achieve something I will use the villain. I will make many of the shots of the villain from low angles, to make him look bigger, and more important. To show that he’s a villain, I will use some of the mise-and-scene, dressing him of dark colors, representing darkness and evilness, and he’s going to say something that’s going to sound very abrupt, and will make the villain look really bad, this sentence will also show what the protagonist is trying to achieve. The sentence could be something like “I know you have it”, or “I know you did it”.
The rest of the characters (probably not all) are going to be shown throughout the opening, but their role it’s probably not be as notorious as those from the hero and villain.
Well well… I’ll keep you guys updated in terms of the portfolio project, and see you on the next one!!

Group Meeting #1

First Group Meeting

Hey there!! Today, we had our first group meeting in class, which was really helpful for me to get more ideas, and helped me to overachieve some obstacles that I had. We did this meeting on a group of 8 persons from my class, where we took turns to discuss about our projects, and get feedback, and maybe some new ideas.

The other projects

The first person to go was Cristina. Her idea is to have a DJ that’s having trouble to become more known, since he’s starting his career, and because he’s young. She wanted to record all of this on the parking lot, inside a car, at the beach. Some of the troubles she had were that she didn’t know how to show that the DJ was having trouble becoming famous, so we said that maybe she could include the DJ having a conversation with a friend. This opening its going to be a coming of age genre. Link to Cristina’s blog :)

Some of the other projects that we discussed a lot about was Noah’s. He’s doing a drama about a teen who’s growing up in a bad environment. Noah wanted to start his opening with the main character smoking, but the problem is that he wanted the main character to be a teen, and since its illegal for minors to smoke, he was wondering what he could do to record that scene, and Sebastian suggested that he could only show the cigarette coming out of the character’s mouth, and if he wanted it to look more realistic, that there could be an adult behind the teen, smoking, and hide him, so it looks like the smoke its coming from the teen. Link to Noah’s blog

My project

My project didn’t get much comments, but my group members suggested that maybe on the scene when I’m showing the main character tied up on the chair, maybe I could add movement, like the chair moving and him trying to get off the ropes that are tying him up. They also suggested that after I include the tittle, I could add an explanation of how my character got himself into that situation (tied up, on a chain, in a dark room), and they told me that it could also really help me with the timing of my opening.

Impact

This group meeting had an impact on my project, since it helped me realize that there were some things (like shots, scenes, and time concerns) that I had not considered, and their ideas inspired me and helped me make my project better.

What’s my opening going to be like?

Initial idea

Hey there!! Welcome back to another blogpost… Today, I’m going to be explaining and showing a little bit more about my opening. First of all, as you have probably seen on my previous posts, I chose the ACTION genre, and my opening is going to have many of its characteristics.

Idea

My idea is that when the film starts, after showing the credits, to have a sound of someone trying to escape from a chair, which he’s going to be tied to. After showing that scene, I would like to incorporate some shots as flashbacks, of that character being chased down by someone, and to also include car shots, and really short shots of fight scenes, then, showing the face of the character that captured the man on the chair, and right after that, to introduce the tittle.
After the tittle, or maybe before, I could have a mysterious voice, saying “i know you have it”, or something like that. And when the tittle goes off, I’m going to include a dramatic scene, and after that, I’ll probably show a mysterious box, which will act as a prop, and I’m going to make it look as if it has a lot of value. After that, i will have a screen that says “12 hours ago”, and I’ll show the character from the chair driving a car, and then abruptly stopping to find a dead body
